MARKETING, INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AND TOURISM

Stories and opportunities from Manchester Metropolitan's MIBT department

Welcome to your first year

MIBT can’t wait to meet you…

All that hard work has paid off and we are so pleased that you are joining one of our undergrad programmes in the Marketing, International Business and Tourism (MIBT) Department in the Business School of Manchester Metropolitan University.

Starting university can be a nerve-wracking time as there are a lot of new experiences, but it also exciting as you have loads of new opportunities ahead of you. Remember that everyone is in the same boat and we hope that before you know it, you’ll have settled into university life and forgotten all about those nerves.

Before You Start – Getting Ready to be a Man Met Student

We know you will have lots of questions about what university life is like. Manchester Met has prepared some live, interactive online workshops that you can take part in before you start your studies.

These range from how study will be different from school or college, and developing the right study skills, to becoming part of a community and making connections. Don’t worry if you miss the live sessions…there will also be online resources available.

During welcome week we delivered some sessions about the systems you will you use while studying here. You can find the recap below:

Count Me In – Engagement and Attendance

Your timetable will be available to view at my.mmu.ac.uk This tells you where you need to be and when. You are expected to attend all timetabled sessions – and to us there is no better way to learn and interact with your programme than by being in the room. Not only that, good attendance has been proven as a strong indicator of academic success, as well as engaging with content on Moodle and submitting all your coursework on time.

You record your attendance by ‘tapping in’ with your Student ID card on the card readers in lecture and seminar rooms. You can check your attendance on the portal, or if you have a reason you can’t attend you can log it there too. This is important so we know that you are doing ok. If you have low attendance levels, we will be in contact with you. This will be to offer support and increase your chances of getting a great degree at Manchester Met.
