Skill Spotlight – Making the most of LinkedIn
LinkedIn is much more than an online CV and the good news is a bit of polish over the summer could improve your career prospects. If you have a profile already you’ll know LinkedIn is one of the most widely used platforms for posting jobs and finding opportunities, building professional connections and learning about different industries and researching employers.
Start by making sure your profile is up to date. Adding your latest education, work experience, volunteering, achievements and key skills from all of those places. Employers often search by skills and the LinkedIn job search algorithm does too. A complete profile makes it easier for employers and recruiters to understand your strengths and interests. Not sure where to start with any aspect of LinkedIn? Use our Career Centre LinkedIn guides.
Use LinkedIn to support your job search by following organisations that interest you, connect with people working in roles you would like to explore and set up job alerts for opportunities that match your interests. Loads of employers advertise roles directly through LinkedIn, and following relevant companies or adding specific search criteria can help you spot opportunities early.
A few minutes updating and improving your profile over the summer months and will mean you grow your network and open the door to new opportunities and connections.
