@marketingwithalice

Second Year Marketing Management Student Alice has just launched a new Instagram page @marketingwithalice to share her growing knowledge of marketing tips and advice with a wider community of aspiring marketers.

Alice explained what inspired her to set up the Insta page, and how it will help to build her profile and connections as she prepares for her final year of study at Manchester Met and ultimately a graduate career.

What inspired you to start your Instagram page ‘@marketingwithalice’?

I started my page with the aim to create a community of budding marketeers, like myself, where we can share knowledge with each other and learn new skills. Although my page is still very new I have already connected with a variety of people who are also interested in marketing and learnt so many new tips and tricks.

My page also helps me to stand out when applying for jobs, as employers love to see that you have experience of running a social media page! As I graduate next year it is so important that I build my portfolio to impress future employers, and this is a great way to start.

Why did you choose to host this on Instagram?

Instagram is one of the biggest social media platforms and has recently surpassed the 1 billion global user mark, with no evidence of this slowing down. The marketing community makes up a significant percentage of these users – just by searching #marketingtips on Instagram there are currently 4.1 million posts by people sharing their own marketing advice! I really wanted to join this community to share my own tips as well as learn from others, which is why I chose to host my page on Instagram.

Where have you personally found useful marketing tips and resources as a student?

As a student one of the main resources I use is Mintel. Before I began my degree I had never even heard of Mintel, and now I use it in every single one of my assignments! It offers a range of studies and statistics which are so useful to use in your projects, as they back up the statements that you make and get you those valuable extra marks

Having lecturers and tutors who are always happy to help with any queries has also made a huge difference throughout my degree, as they have offered me fantastic advice based off years of experience in the marketing industry.

What single piece of advice would you give to a new marketing student?

Stay organised! Sometimes after a long day of lectures and tutorials the last thing you want to do is organise all the work and notes you have made that day, and you can quickly become overloaded with masses of sheets and documents (Trust me, I’ve been there!). But as I am about to enter my third year of university, I still find myself referring to notes and work I created in my first year and even my foundation year. Therefore, my main piece of advice would be to keep all your work organised, as it will definitely come in handy to you even years later!

Describe your ideal graduate job…..

Once I graduate I would ideally like to find a job in social media marketing, creating digital campaigns and running social media pages. I am massively interested in how social media has become such a huge part of marketing in recent years and would love to be a part of this myself.
