An overview of the grading system and assessment regulations.

To progress to the next year of study, you need to have fulfilled the academic regulations for your current year of study.
Level 5 (second year): You must pass (or achieve a compensated pass in) all modules (120 credits).
Full assessment regulations and information about reassessment, degree calculation, support, etc. can be found on our website https://www.mmu.ac.uk/student-life/course/assessments
Importance of attendance and impact on grades
Recent level 5 data:
•For students with an average grade of 72% and above, modules attendance was an average of 74% .
•Those with an average grade of a third had 39% attendance this year.
•Attendance at lectures and tutorials has a strong correlation to assessment grades.

Reflection and acting on feedback
It is vital that you utilise feedback when preparing for a reassessment!
•Did you read your feedback?
•How did you feel about your most recent piece of feedback?
•Did you refer back to previous feedback when preparing for an assignment?
•Written feedback is usually available via Turnitin. Click the pencil icon to access this:

You might feel upset or disappointed when you receive a grade. This is okay! Take some time to process those feelings.
If you are confused about the grade/feedback, make sure you reach out to your tutor to help you to understand it, so that you can use it to move forward.
If it is helpful to you, talk to a friend or peer about it. Good friends often help to put things into perspective
•Are there any common themes?
•What were the strengths in your work?
•What were the key areas for improvement?
•Did you address the (whole) assessment criteria?
•Were any issues major or minor?
•Major issues – (lack of) evidence, argument, structure, analysis
•Minor issues – spelling, grammar, punctuation, consistency
Receiving feedback is an important part of your development while at university. Although it may evoke negative feelings, try to remember its purpose…
Growth Success Development
Improvement Achievement Learning
Reassessments are an opportunity to demonstrate academic and personal growth!
Reflecting on why you didn’t submit an assessment
Identify what prevented you from submitting work.
Did you not fully understand the assignment brief?
Did you struggle to complete it alongside other commitments, e.g. employment or other responsibilities?
Utilise any feedback you’ve received previously if it highlights something related to your work in general, e.g. writing style, choice of references, etc.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to your module leader, tutor, Programme Support Team, or the Study Skills team for support – we are here to help!
Creating an action plan
•Focus – decide on key areas for improvement
•Resources – access relevant sources of info and support
•Actions – attainable goals in a realistic timeframe
•Motivation – your overall goal/inspiration
Submitting reassessments
When uploading work for a reassessment, ensure that you use the correct submission point in Moodle! It should clearly state it is for a reassessment, e.g.

If you are unsure about which submission point to use, contact your tutor in plenty of time before the deadline.
Note: Self-certified extensions are not available for reassessments.
