Beth Muncer Third year Business and Marketing student
Last week I had the opportunity to attend McDonald’s HQ in London to present a campaign idea based around bringing families back to McDonald’s. Within this presentation, myself and my course mates discussed how the challenging times of a post-pandemic society, the cost-of-living crisis and its impact on mental health have contributed to the decreasing number of families eating out.

We tapped into the effective use of nostalgia marketing in attempt to bring back to fun memories of our childhood at McDonald’s in current times of uncertainty. Along this trip down memory lane, ‘McFamily Events’ was created🧑🧑🧒. Our ‘McFamily Events’ aims to bring families back into McDonald’s restaurants, inviting them into a welcoming space where good food and fun activities can be enjoyed with their loved ones. Alongside this, we created the ‘Family McMeal Deal’ (a tongue twister, I know!😂), a family meal box (2 main meals and 2 happy meals) which is earned through reward points that are given out at each McFamily Event🍔.

I am beyond grateful to have had this opportunity to present this idea to some of the amazing marketing professionals at McDonald’s.
We also gained some great insight into the behind the scenes process of creating ads for McDonald’s from the various marketing agencies they closely work with.
A massive thank you to Ashley McCoy who continuously prioritises the professional development of his students, providing us with unique and valuable experiences on our journey towards soon-to-be marketeers! 👩🏻🎓
Finally, a huge thank you to McDonald’s for inviting us down to the London HQ to teach us more about the ins and outs of creating and launching a marketing campaign and allowing us to put this into practice🙌🏼
