As wealth and income inequality surge while gender and ethnicity gaps widen, we are urgently asking: is this fair? What would a fairer society look like? How do we conceptualise and measure the fairness of our political, economic and social systems? What do we owe each other, and whose responsibility is it to ensure an equitable approach?

Can marketing, brands, businesses and the tourism industry facilitate a fairer society ?

The Challenge.

Future Me Week is 22-26 January – a week full of events and activities on campus, designed to boost your confidence and increase your skills for the future. We want you to showcase your skills and knowledge tackling our challenge question using social media. We will be offering fabulous prizes and the chance to be named a MIBT Future Champion.

The challenge is to create a blog, LinkedIn article (200 to 500 words) or Instagram reel (20 to 60 seconds) to be hosted on MIBT social media channels exploring the question ‘how do we create a fairer society?’. The challenge can be completed in a team (maximum of four members) or individually.

When creating your content consider the following:

  • Accessibility of content
  • Confident communication
  • Challenging assumptions and embracing diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Demonstrating respect, compassion and empowerment.

Judging and Prizes.

Your submission will be considered by a panel of academic staff from the Department of Marketing, International Business and Tourism– selecting one winner for each level of study. They will be looking at:

  • Creativity and Originality
  • Depth of Analysis
  • Clarity of Communication
  • Relevance to the Theme
  • Effective Use of Medium (blog, LinkedIn, or Instagram)

The prize will be £100 of high street vouchers for the top entry from each level of study. (if you submit a group entry the prize will be split among team members equally). All submissions that meet the judging criteria will be published on our social media outlets and blog. Winners will be announced at the Showcase Event on 23 January 2023.

How to Apply.

The application form is here and you can attach your submission to it – remember you need to be on a course that is administered by the MIBT department to enter. Make sure your entry meets all the criteria. One entry per student. If you are entering as a team all members of that team must be studying at the same level. Good Luck!

Closing Date.

Submissions will close on the 19 January 2024 at 5.00pm. Entries received after this time won’t be considered so get creative now!
