We caught up with Lydia Wilson, an Assistant Careers Adviser in the team to hear what the group is all about and why you should join.

What is the FoBL Careers LinkedIn Group?

The group is a space for students, graduates and staff of the Manchester Metropolitan University Faculty of Business and Law, to share and discuss topics related to employability.

Why have you decided to create the group?

As a team, we were keen to create a space for students to not only hear about the latest vacancies and events but also get to know their dedicated careers team. We are always on hand to support students and graduates on their career journey, so we hope the group will help to make us more approachable as students can comment on any of our posts to ask questions, get advice and so on.

The group is a safe space for students to discuss all things employability-related!

Why should FoBL students and graduates join the group?

The Career Team are updating posting daily news regarding vacancies, opportunities and events, along with resources and tips for professional development to help students build their confidence and connections. We post content tailored to every department across the Faculty, so we are positive that there will be a post that will help you to boost your employability.

The group is an opportunity to connect with students and staff across the University, building your network on LinkedIn is a great way to get noticed by employers too.

What would your advice be for a student who doesn’t have a LinkedIn profile yet?

Get started! Creating a LinkedIn profile is really simple, you can use our online guide to help you with this.

Not only is our group helpful for finding job vacancies, but LinkedIn also have their very own jobs page where employers can post adverts for free. This means that employers may only post their vacancies on LinkedIn and if you don’t have a profile, you might miss out on applying.

Having a profile also means you can access your LinkedIn Learning subscription which offers video courses taught by industry experts in software, creative and business skills. If you want to brush up on your Microsoft excel skills, leadership skills or anything really, LinkedIn Learning will have a course for you! You can find out more about accessing LinkedIn Learning here.
