Manchester Met student wins top award at creative advertising event

Postgraduate students Winners at Creative Resource Two+Two 2021

A Manchester Met student was part of the winning team at a virtual collaborative advertising challenge, hosted by recruitment agency Creative Resource.

Chelsea Grimshaw, who is studying on the University’s MSc Creative Advertising Strategy course, was part of the winning group of students at the Two+Two collaboration event, which brought together over 200 creative, technical and marketing students from universities across the north of England.

Matilda Richardson Brown, who is also studying on Manchester Met’s MSc Creative Advertising Strategy, picked up the Silver Award as part of the group finishing second in the competition.

Chelsea Grimshaw said: “It was brilliant to be able to get involved with Two+Two this year and put the skills I have gained from my course into creating a winning idea. Developing a campaign from research and insights in such a small period of time was a challenge to say the least, but not impossible thanks to the quality of teaching this year.

“As an aspiring creative copywriter, it is safe to say that after winning Two+Two, I now know that the course has provided me with the exact skills the industry is looking for.”

The online event saw teams, made up of students from different universities, work on a live project brief aimed at encouraging 18-25-year-olds to take up the COVID-19 vaccination when it is offered to them.

The event enabled students to use the skills they have learnt in their studies, with Manchester Met’s participants putting into practice the blend of commercial, theoretical and creative skills to create effective advertising campaigns.

Michell Gledhill, Programme Leader on the University’s MSc Creative Advertising Strategy, said: “‘Two plus Two event ticks all the boxes for students developing their creativity, campaign planning, teamwork and networking with creative industry professionals. Chelsea’s win this year builds on past student success in 2019 and is testament to the content and team at MMU who work with me on the MSC Creative Advertising Strategy Programme. Congratulations to Chelsea and Matilda”

Phil Cookson, Director at Creative Resource, said: “Two+Two is now firmly established in the calendar for creative and marketing students in the North, and we were determined to ensure students this year didn’t miss out due to the pandemic so took the entire event online for over 200 people.

“Thanks to the desire of the students and the commitment of huge numbers of agencies and brands in the North, the event was a huge success. The winning team, Orange Dragons, comprised four students from different universities – Manchester Met, Leeds, Sheffield Hallam and Lancaster.

“They not only had to come together quickly as four individuals to form a team but develop ideas and strategy to encourage 18-25-year-olds to take up the COVID-19 vaccination when offered. In winning, they beat 30 other teams to the title, with their idea wowing the judging panel of industry professionals.”
